On September 2nd, Seoul National University Hospital (President Kim Young Tae) opened ‘DongHaeng Lounge’ on the first floor of the cancer hospital, further expanding SNUH’s patient-tailored counseling services and education programs. With this expansion, patients and their families can receive cancer treatment and recovery support in a more comfortable and relaxing environment.
DongHaeng Lounge is a 2,500-square-foot (70-pyeong) complex space designed to meet the diverse needs of cancer patients and their families. The space includes a cancer information education center, a counseling center, an open studio, a multimedia zone, and a lounge. It focuses on relieving the psychological burden experienced during treatment and providing practical help. Located on the first floor of the cancer hospital, it is easily accessible and has become the optimal space for patients to rest and recharge during treatment.
Since its establishment in 2011, the Cancer Information Education Center has continuously provided cancer-treatment-related information and counseling services to cancer patients and their families. This relocation to DongHaeng Lounge plans to extend patient-tailored counseling, cancer information content, and education programs to a more spacious and modern space, and go further in developing a patient-centered treatment environment.
The center operates lecture-type education and participatory programs for cancer patients and their families. Lecture-type education covers the entire spectrum of cancer treatment, including medical information for each cancer type, treatment management, diet, and pain management. Participatory programs include activities that consider the support of patients’ minds and bodies, such as yoga, music therapy, and art therapy. Patients can also receive emotional support and practical advice through volunteer programs involving interacting with cancer survivors. In addition, information on cancer treatment and management is provided through various media, such as the website, leaflets, books, booklets, and videos.
In particular, DongHaeng Lounge is equipped with the latest facilities that allow both face-to-face and remote education, allowing patients to obtain various information regardless of time and place. Through these facilities, lectures and workshops that can improve the cancer treatment experience and provide practical help to patients and their families will be held every month.
Any cancer patient or family member who needs cancer-related information and education can use the facilities from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. on weekdays.
Kim Young Tae, the president of Seoul National University Hospital, said, “With the opening of DongHaeng Lounge, cancer patients and their families will be able to receive treatment in a more comfy environment, and we expect that the treatment process will become even more comfortable.” He added, “We will continue to actively support the healthy recovery of patients so that this space can play a role in providing new hope and stability to patients.”
