Patients, Carers, Doctors and stakeholders

Seoul National University Hospital (SNUH) Public Health Medical Services department (Director Kim, Hee-joong) offered its free medical services to patients in abroad this year.

This time, a four-year old girl from Nepal, Kaniska Shakya, came to Korea; hospitalized on January 2nd and discharged on March 9th.

She was diagnosed with mitral stenosis due to a recurrent pneumonia at the Fortis Escorts Hospital in India two years ago. Though she underwent two surgeries to treat the symptom, but the result turned out to be unsuccessful. So her doctor in Nepal consulted Prof. Woong-han Kim at SNUH with her case and ask for substantial help for her.  SNUH then organized logistics for her, so she could be invited to Korea. Even during her stay in the SNUH, she fell in a critical condition, so she had to go through surgeries. Fortunately, she regained her health thanks to the special care offered by medical staff at SNUH and could go back home healthy.

Particularly, Dr. Woong-han Kim, professor at the Department of Thoracic Surgery spared no efforts to successfully complete the project by not only performing the surgeries on her, but also actively engaged in a fund-raising activity for her medical expenses.
