New Cancer Center to be Opened in 2010

A cancer center of the Seoul National University (SNU) Hospital, one of its key projects, is to be launched by the end of 2010. The cancer center requiring a total of approximately 48 billion won is to be a four-story building with six basement floors with the floor space of 27,000 square meters (8,400 pyeong) and the building area of about 3,200 square meters (approximately 1,000 pyeong).

The center will be home to Outpatient Cancer Care Room, Ultrasound Test Room, PET, Medical Laboratory of the Department of Laboratory Medicine, Endoscopy Room, Cancer Education Room, Clinical Test Center, Chemotherapy Room, Day-care Unit, (with 43 beds) and Short-term Hospitalization Unit (with 57 beds). Moreover, state-of-the-art medical equipment including CT and MRI will be used. Meanwhile, parts of the second floor and the third to fifth basement floors will be used as parking lots capable of holding about 350 vehicles.

Director Seong Sang-cheol said, “Once the cancer center is completed, overall efficiency in our medical treatments will be raised because backlogged outpatient and inpatient treatments are eased and interaction of medical treatment systems among different medical departments enables a ‘one-stop’ service.”
