LA Office Launched to Enhance the Health Status of Koreans in the U.S.

Medical reservation for a medical check-up and treatment for severe diseases including cancer and services in linkage with other medical centers

The Seoul National University (SNU) Hospital opened its medical office in LA on November 21, 2008 in hopes of enhancing the health status of ethnic Koreans living in the U.S. Located on 3699 Wilshire Boulevard in the middle of the LA Korea Town, various services will be offered by the SNU Hospital including medical reservation for a medical check-up and treatment for severe diseases including cancer, and medical information service in conjunction with hospitals and SNU Hospital Healthcare System Gangnam Center.

The LA Office enables Koreans seeking for a medical check-up to receive a medical service at the SNU Hospital Healthcare System Gangnam Center operated by the SNU Hospital. Once a patient is diagnosed with a disease after a check-up, he/she can receive a prompt treatment at the SNU Hospital of Korea or the Bundang SNU Hospital. Not only that, an integrated health management service is provided through a network with local hospitals in the U.S. for continuous care even after the treatment. Moreover, for Korean citizens living abroad diagnosed with a severe disease like cancer, the LA Office will make reservations for a treatment in the SNU Hospital, the Bundang SNU Hospital and SMG-SNU Boramae Medical Center and enable the interaction of medical treatment systems with local medical centers. For a medical check-up, nurses in the LA Office will identify a customer’s age, past medical history and family medical history to form a customized check-up program and make a reservation for medical service according to his/her schedule in Korea. Not only that, one-on-one consultation is available from a health planner in the SNU Hospital Healthcare System Gangnam Center and reservation is also available via its website.

The SNU Hospital Healthcare System Gangnam Center located on the 38th to 40th floors in Gangnam Finance Center in Yeoksam-dong, Seoul, was launched in October 2003. It operates various programs including a general check-up and precise diagnosis to check the overall health status of the whole body in a single day. It is home to 40 or so medical professors in internal medicine, family medicine, radiology, ophthalmology and dentistry and also has cutting-edge medical equipment of PET-CT, MRI and CT. Director of the SNU Hospital Sung Sang-chul said, “We will strive to provide various medical services to Koreans in the U.S. to enhance their health status based on the world-class medical service of the SNU Hospital,” adding, “It will initiate the globally recognized domestic medical service to be more accessible in the global stage.”

The opening of the LA Office is the second of its kind after the local office of the SNU Hospital in Mongolia launched in November 2007. The SNU Hospital’s Mongolian Office was opened after the SNU Hospital signed an agreement for medical exchanges with the First, Second and Third General Hospitals of Mongolia. The Mongolian office is playing an intermediary role in training medical specialists, medical check-ups and patient transfer in the Second General Hospital of Mongolia.
